Our Creative Director Dan picks a track at random, our guest adds a track that they think of in response and explains the link, then they go back and forth for 10 tracks.

YVONNE FAIR "SAY YEAH YEAH"

DD: Kicking off with some funky 60s soul.

DOTTIE CAMBRIDGE "CRY YOUR EYES OUT"

SS: Sending back Cry Your Eyes Out by Dottie Cambridge. Linking them both with tears. Whereas Yvonne is telling us she won’t cry, Dottie is going all out and encouraging you to have a blubber.

BOZ SCAGGS "LOWDOWN"

DD: Nice one. Cambridge is famous for it's University, where people go to get degrees, so I've added Boz Scaggs' classic Lowdown from the album Silk Degrees.

FREDDIE McGREGOR "BIG SHIP"

SS: Love a bit of Yacht Rock. Great choice. Staying with the nautical theme we’ve got Mr Freddie McGregor and Big Ship.

TODD TERJE "EURODANS"

DD: Very good. I've added Eurodans by Todd Terje, for 2 reasons - one being that he has remixed and collaborated with Bryan Ferry, and the other that the cover art features a drawing of an anchor.

MILLIE JACKSON "HOUSE FOR SALE"

SS: Big like. Terje Ölsen is known professionally as Todd Terje. His stage name plays homage to the legendary house music producer Todd Terry. Linking house to House For Sale by Millie Jackson.

WANDA JACKSON "WHIRLPOOL"

DD: There's loads of ways I could have linked from that fine track, but I've kept it simple with another female Jackson, Wanda Jackson's "Whirlpool".

MARVELOUS RAY "WHIRLPOOL"

SS: Jackson to Jackson. Whirlpool to Whirlpool. By the marvellous Marvelous Ray.

THE SPINNERS "I'LL BE AROUND"

DD: Lovely choice, sounds a lot like Dancing In The Street that. I'm going to end my selections with a classic, from whirlpools spinning to The Spinners.

TIMI YURO "IT'LL NEVER BE OVER FOR ME"

SS: What a track! The song’s all about a guy whose partner (let’s assume she’s a girl) is leaving him and he is declaring that no matter what happens he will always be there for her. I love the lyrics but especially this line “I'll be standing in a coffin, I'll be there”. That’s love right there!

Linking this up with a similar themed tearjerker by Timi Yuro. “It’ll Never Be Over for Me”. A real proper Northern Soul gem. On some people’s “three before eight” list. And in my top three of all time. Enjoy.

FULL PLAYLIST:

Big thanks to Simon for great links, great tunes and loads of soul!
