Maker of bittersweet beats and electronic soundscapes kiskadee aka Jack Chown
Track 1 - Outside, Lili Haydn "To Forgive But Not Forget (Lim'Chol V'Lo Lishkoach)"
DD: Kicking things off with a crazy bit of drum n bass x jungle x classical that my brother introduced me to in the mid-90s.
Track 2 - Romare "Freedom (Aspirations Of A Prisoner)"
JC: Woah, that Outside track is so cool! Ok, time to get tenuous…I didn't know too much about Matt Cooper but was just checking out his work with Giles Peterson on STR4TA which led me down a Brownswood rabbit hole and some older Bubbler compilations. So many gems in there but I stumbled across this early Romare track which has some beautiful haunting strings at the beginning which seems like a nice link on from Outside.
Track 3 - The TSU Toronados "My Thing Is A Moving Thing"
DD: Love that Jack! Ok, Romare’s real name is Archie Fairhurst, another Archie, Archie Bell’s most popular track (as Archie Bell & The Drells) is the fantastic soul tune “Tighten Up”, which he and Billy Butler wrote with musical backing by the T.S.U. Toronados.
Track 4 - Tony Allen & Jeff Mills, Carl Hancock Rux "The Night Watcher - Edit"
JC: Ooh, funky! Started my day off right...one of the members in T.S.U. Toronados is Nelson Mills leading me to another Mills, Jeff Mills and his space jazz/afro-groove collaboration with Tony Allen (feat. Carl Hancock Rux).
Track 5 - Oby Onyioha "Enjoy Your Life"
DD: Nice. Tony Allen was born in Lagos, Nigeria as was Oby Onyioha, so I've added some smooth laid back disco from her 1981 debut EP/single.
Track 6 - Talk Talk "The Rainbow"
JC: Oooh, I like it! I went from "Enjoy Your Life" to Talk Talk, probably best known for their 1984 hit " It's My Life". I've added the opening track from Spirit of Eden - the Rainbow....b-e-a-utiful.
Track 7 - Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs "Garden"
DD: Lovely, I'm going from Eden to Garden and T.E.E.D's absolute classic banger 🔥 Can't believe this is almost 12 years old!!
Track 8 - Low Island "Everything Before Us"
JC: Oooh, that takes me back haha - T.E.E.D is the brother of Felix, drummer in Low Island. I've just added one of their singles from last year, "Everything Before Us". Another banger!
Track 9 - Rosehardt “High Hopes"
DD: TUNE! I like Low Island. Let's go from Low to High for my last track, here is High Hopes by Rosehardt. Over to you for the closing track...
Track 10 - kiskadee "Higher Calling"
JC: ….this is a bit shameless but here goes nothing! From High Hopes to Higher Calling, a track I released last year as kiskadee, an artist project I started over lockdown 1.0.
