DD: kicking things off with a funky old favourite.
THEATRE OF DISCO "DONNIE DISCO"
MC: Nice start! Early 2000s was a good time for electro music. Superthriller was/is up there with the alt-electro vibes, but this genre for me belongs to Theatre of Disco. Lead singer was a madman and left-of-centre and the music is all the better for it.
DONALD "A VER, A VER (RIC PICCOLO EDIT)"
DD: Great tune, those vocals are so off kilter. Got me listening to an old The Twelves mix which had their remix of YOA in the middle, that I used to listen to loads but haven't heard for ages. Thought about picking something else from that, but instead I've gone from Donnie to Donald and this edit from an excellent Soundway Records complilation released late last year.
POLO & PAN "PLAGE ISOLEE (AMIT BRACHA EDIT)"
MC: That track made me feel like I was on a Mediterranean beach, sun buzzing on the skin, ice cold beer in hand and waves slapping the sand. So here’s a chilled out edit of Polo&Pan’s Plage Isolee by Amit Bracha.
MINT JULEP "SOON THE SEA"
DD: Nice bit of scene-setting. That guitar part really reminds me of something and has been driving me crazy trying to figure out what it is. Anyhow, for the next track I've gone for double linkage, from Plage to Sea and Polo to Mint.
PORTABLE SUNSETS "ISLANDER"
MC: I was reading that this song was written to welcome in the summer. It made me wish I was back in Sicily where my family are from and where, like the name suggests, those sunsets could be portable.
SUNDOWN "SPACED OUTTA PLACE PT2"
DD: Lovely. I like that wobbly synth sound and nice hypnotic groove. Another word for Sunset is Sundown, so next up is this.
BENNY SINGS "GET THERE"
MC: Ahh man Amp Fiddler! What a legend. When I just started out in the creative industry, he was one of the artists that got played a lot on the office CD sound system. I remembers those time well. And here's another artists from that same playlist - Benny Sings.
C2C "HAPPY (J.A.C.K REMIX)"
DD: Love Benny Sings! That track immediately made me think of C2C's "Happy", but to keep things a bit tenuous here is the J.A.C.K remix.
PHENOMENAL HANDCLAP BAND "JUDGE NOT (RAY MANG SPECIAL MIX)"
MC: A 'happy' song title and a nifty little piano riff takes me straight to Phenomenal Handclap Band and this smile inducing, disco delight - Judge Not.
