DD: kicking things off with a Norwegian disco gem.
M83 "MIDNIGHT CITY"
ARK: Inspector Norse is a classic case study track. I've definitely heard it more in awards videos than in the real world, so I've linked it to my favourite case study song M83's Midnight City.
MN8 "I'VE GOT A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU"
DD: Love Midnight City, sort of track that still sounds great after 100s of listens. Next up I've gone for a band that shares 2/3 of it's name with M83, a bit of classic 90s R&B.
TLC "WATERFALLS"
ARK: Sticking with the Top 40 from 1995, I've gone with the single that was #30 on the list on which MN8 was #40.
CONGI FEAT. YAZMIN LACEY "RED"
DD: TUNE! One of the greatest pop songs of all time, Crazysexycool is an amazing album too, Creep, Diggin' On You...was tempted to stick with the 90s vibe and Atlantic Ocean’s dance banger of the same name (singular), but instead I‘ve added something a bit more recent, still with a little 90s R&B feel, and a title the colour of the TLC album cover.
BLOOD ORANGE "TIME WILL TELL"
ARK: I would actually describe the colour on the cover of both TLC & Congi albums as less red and more of a....
SOLANGE "LOSING YOU"
DD: YES!! I bloody love Blood Orange, aka Dev Hynes who co-wrote this absolute gem...
BEYONCÉ "BEFORE I LET GO - HOMECOMING LIVE BONUS TRACK"
ARK: This is shaping up to be a playlist I will actually put on all the time! Solange is one of my all-time favourites <3 Given the huge influence Solange's style / art / mood has had on popular culture, I'm going to keep it in the family. VERY hard to pick which track, of course Upgrade You and the Flawless Remix referencing a billion dollars on the elevator were close condentors, but I've gone with one that references the sister's history of growing up dancing together.
THE FIVE STAIRSTEPS "0-0-H CHILD"
DD: Excellent. Beyonce was a member of Destiny's Child so for my final choice I've gone with a nod to that.
GRIZZLY BEAR "EASIER"
ARK: O-o-h Child promises that things are gonna get easier... and they just did!
