Our Creative Director Dan picks a random track, our guest adds a track that they think of in response and explains the link, then they go back and forth until we end up with 10 tracks.
TT#6 X MICHELLE STODDART
Founder of Stoddart Music
Track 1 - Anz ft.George Riley "You Could Be"
DD: Starting off with the best pop song of 2021.
Track 2 - Catherine Wheel "I Want To Touch You"
MS: This made me think of the 1990s indie classic by Catherine Wheel with lyrics about wanting another, desire etc.
Track 3 - Ride "Leave Them All Behind"
DD: I've gone for Ride's epic Leave Them All Behind which has a similar feel and was released in the same year.
Track 4 - DIIV "Under The Sun"
MS: This track has another strong shoegaze intro (like the Ride track) and a swirling sound to get lost in!
Track 5 - Sky Ferreira "Everything Is Embarrassing"
DD: Love that track, sounds a bit New Order. But I’ve added Everything Is Embarrassing by Sky Ferreira who featured on the DIIV album.
Track 6 - Roosevelt "Lovers"
MS: I added a synth pop gem by Roosevelt called “Lovers” - the Sky Ferreira track is poppy and about lovers so that’s the tenuous link.
Track 7 - Aretha Franklin "Day Dreaming"
DD: Roosevelt was a US President whose first name was Franklin, so I'm going with some Aretha Franklin.
Track 8 - Nina Simone "Tell Me More And More And Then Some"
MS: Awesome Aretha Franklin song! I chose another iconic female powerhouse, and a song that’s also about love & strong connections between two.
Track 9 - Anthony Newley "Bee Bom"
DD: Anthony Newley co-wrote (with Leslie Bricusse) Nina Simone's classic Feeling Good.
Track 10 - Siouxsie and the Banshees "Peek-A-Boo"
MS: Oh, love that Anthony Newley track. It somehow made me think of this, maybe the prominent vocal hook, they’re both London born too!
